Meizu MX quad-core version release date set for May 2012

After hearing all about Meizu MX and it release date set for next month, it looks like the Chinese manufacturer is preparing to deliver a quad-core version of the smartphone. There were some rumors saying it will arrive in the Q3 2011, but apparently, they were way off. Former Meizu CEO Jack Wong, who currently is some sort of chairman, confirmed this news on the official Meizu forum, a few days ago. For those of you who didn’t know, the first variant of Meizu MX is running a really popular version of Android OS called Meizu’s custom.

The company originally claimed it to be the first quad-core handset, however considering it won’t be released until May 2012, HTC or Samsung may get there first. According to some rumors, Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC Edge will both have quad-core processors, so it’s really just a matter of time. The original Meizu MX used the Samsung Exynos dual-core CPU, the same one found in Galaxy S II.

Considering this, it’s very likely that the new Meizu MX will come with the Samsung Exynos 4412 SoC ( system on a chip ) leaked last month, which will supposedly power the Samsung Galaxy S III . Mr. Wong also said the phone is going to run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with a brand new Meizu user interface that will be even cooler than the current one.

Other than that, there isn’t much information about the new Meizu MX, may fans still hoping to get their hands on the first variant, which should arrive on January 1st 2012. It sports a 1.4GHz dual-core CPU and comes with 1GB of RAM having a 4-inch display ( 960×640 ). There will be 16 GB of internal storage but a 32GB model is likely to surface later. It runs Gingerbread but, in the near future Meizu will deliver an ICS update.

Despite the fact that the Chinese company designed some really solid hardware like the M9 smartphone, they are still pretty much unknown outside of their country. For a while, they were known as Apple copycats but they sure made a serious effort to turn thing around.
